Originally planned to be named “East Side Story” this beloved classic follows the tragic story of a Caucasian Catholic boy and Peurto Rican Jewish girl on the upper east side of New York. Prior to becoming one of the biggest household names in modern-day history, Lin-Manuel Miranda worked on the Spanish translation for the 2009 revival. A lot of the changes made help to address the more stereotypical and less culturally sensitive aspects of the show.

Known for several notable roles, Julie Andrews nearly turned down the role of Maria in “The Sound of Music.” When she was originally approached for the role of Maria, Julie Andrews had just finished filming the 1964 version of “Mary Poppins.” Looking to diversify her roles she was at first concerned that the two characters were too similar to one another. Luckily she did eventually accept the part.

5: This Disney Channel original was Zac Efron’s stepping stone into the spotlight, do you remember the name of this movie?

While this movie helped propel Zac Efron to stardom, many might not know that Zac didn’t actually provide the vocals for most of his singing parts in the first movie. Due to his lower range and inability to hit the higher notes, the voice of Troy Bolton was actually sung by Drew Seeley. After the success of the first movie, the directors decided to highlight Efron’s singing abilities by simply writing the music in a lower key.

It ended up being a sound decision as “Facing Future” made it to number 25 on Billboard magazine's Top Pop Charts.

While this can often be overlooked on Broadway, in the big theaters most viewers want there to be a clear narrative.

What many might not know is that one of the movie’s most dramatic moments, the burning of the theater at the end of the film, turned into a real-life disaster as the flames got out of hand and proceeded to burn down the set! Luckily no one was injured in the accident.

While personal visits to artist like Paul McCartney and Elton John helped seal the deal for some songs, in the end only two artists refused to give permission for their songs to be featured in the film: The Rolling Stones and Yusuf Islam.
